On Saturday November 7, 1964 the Beaver Country Times announces that they are installing the world's fastest hot metal linecasting machine. They paid US$25,726.39 for the machine. A machine that at 15 lines a minute, runs faster than it is possible for a human to manipulate the keyboard. The story goes on to give us a brief overview of how the Elektron will be used at the Times. A brief history of Mergenthaler and his "Eight Wonder of the World", is also included in the story. A couple of fillers on the page also make interesting reading. Did you know that serif letters were originated by Greek masons around the fourth century BC and that the idea for separate printing type first occurred to Coster a pioneer printer of Haarlem Holland? Well you can find all this information at:- http://tinyurl.com/ykzf83z
