Welcome to the May edition of the Metal Type newsletter.

A lot of new interesting material was added to the site during April.

A picture of an exhibition of Blue Streak Linotypes at the offices of the Linotype Company in Chicago, was added as well as pictures and details of the Intertype stick attachment.

I must admit, I'd never heard of this device before. Basically it's a kind of setting stick for hand-assembling display matrices, which are then introduced to the machine via a specially hinged first elevator head.

On the video front, I've added links to a BBC documentary about Johannes Gutenberg. This hour-long documentary takes a look at medieval type casting, paper making and shows the building of a reproduction Gutenberg press.

On the Forum, George Finn started an interesting discussion on the problems Mergenthaler had with patent issues over the spaceband for his Linotype machines.

A number of new advertisements ware also added to the classified ads section.

That's all for this month, hope to see you all again next month.
